What if everything we think we know about heaven barely scratches the surface of what is actually waiting for us? Colossians 3 opens with a bold and practical command: set your affection on things above. But to set your affection on something, you have to know what it is. This message takes that challenge seriously, drawing on scripture from Colossians, Philippians, Romans, and Revelation to paint a picture of our inheritance in Christ that is far more vivid and tangible than clouds and harps. We explore the resurrection body described in Philippians, fashioned like the glorious body of Christ himself, capable of things that defy everything we currently experience as human limitation. We look at the physical reality of the heavenly Jerusalem, with its staggering dimensions, its walls of jasper, its rivers and light, and what it means that a city of that scale is being prepared as our home. The central spiritual insight here is not merely that heaven is wonderful, but that thinking about it has a direct and practical effect on how we live now. Paul connects the vision of glory directly to the call to mortify earthly lusts. The hope ahead is not an escape from real life. It is the fuel that powers a transformed one. If we can begin to grasp even a fraction of what has been prepared for those who love God, the things that tempt us and distract us start to look exactly like what they are: a poor substitute for something infinitely greater.
