This powerful message confronts us with a sobering reality: not all prayers reach God's ears. Drawing from 1 John 5 and Romans 8, we're challenged to examine the tension between praying according to God's will and our human tendency to not know what we should pray for. The sermon explores how our self-deception can lead us to seek God's face the wrong way—adding prayer as a spiritual capstone to our own logic rather than truly seeking His direction. Through Elijah's story in 1 Kings 18-19, we see how even a victorious prophet can fall into distorted thinking, requesting death after calling down fire from heaven, when all he really needed was rest and nourishment. This teaches us that our greatest spiritual defeats often follow our greatest victories, and that physical exhaustion and emotional discouragement can warp our perception of God's will. The central lesson challenges us to recognize that what we want is not always what we need, and that God, in His mercy, sometimes doesn't give us what we're asking for because He knows better. We're called to defer to the Holy Spirit's guidance, praying 'Lord, I don't know what to do, but I'm open to Your will' rather than demanding God sign off on our predetermined plans.
